Rubrik Acquires DSPM Pioneer Laminar to Boost Cloud Data Security

Rubrik, known as the Zero Trust Data Security™ Company, has announced its acquisition of Laminar, a leader in the data security posture management (DSPM) domain. This strategic move is set to fortify Rubrik’s position in the data security landscape.

The Merger’s Impetus

The acquisition aims to create a comprehensive cyber resilience offering. By integrating Laminar’s DSPM capabilities, Rubrik will unify cyber recovery and cyber posture across enterprise, cloud, and SaaS platforms. This collaboration is expected to enhance the security and visibility of data across fragmented environments.

Mike Tornincasa, Chief Business Officer at Rubrik, expressed enthusiasm about the merger. He emphasized the shared vision of both companies, stating that cyber resilience is the next frontier in data security. The combined expertise will offer customers an integrated solution, bolstering their defenses against cyber threats.

Laminar’s Value Proposition

Amit Shaked, CEO and co-founder of Laminar, highlighted the challenges of shadow data in the digital transformation era. He noted that many businesses are unaware of where their sensitive data resides, making them susceptible to cyberattacks. Laminar’s synergy with Rubrik aims to provide a comprehensive solution, ensuring businesses are prepared against potential threats.

According to a recent Rubrik report, over half of organizations cite visibility differences as a major challenge, leading to misalignment between IT and security teams. The Gartner Hype Cycle™ for Data Security, 2023, further emphasizes the need for DSPM solutions to identify and mitigate data-related risks.

Benefits for Customers

The merger promises several advantages for businesses:

  • Enhanced visibility into data locations, access, and usage.
  • Comprehensive cloud and data security beyond just network and endpoint security.
  • Proactive measures against sophisticated cyber threats using AI-driven technology.

Marene Allison, Former CISO at Johnson & Johnson and a member of Rubrik’s CISO Advisor Board, emphasized the importance of both cyber posture and cyber recovery for achieving complete cyber resilience.

Rubrik’s Expansion Plans

In addition to the acquisition, Rubrik plans to establish a new research and development (R&D) center in Tel Aviv, Israel. This initiative will complement Rubrik’s existing R&D centers, fostering further innovation in data security.
